icn  HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
 NORTHEAST MOUNTAINS   (WAZ037)

Effective: Sat, Feb 13, 2016 03:55pm MST Severity: Unknown
Updated: Sat, Feb 13, 2016 03:55pm MST Urgency: Future
Expires: Sun, Feb 14, 2016 11:00am MST Certainty: Possible

Areas Affected: Northeast Mountains; Okanogan Highlands; Wenatchee Area

Alert:
...MILD, WET, AND BREEZY CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO STREAM RISES...
AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND
INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. EXPECT RISING SNOW LEVELS AND MILD
TEMPERATURES LEADING TO MELTING OF THE MID AND LOW ELEVATION SNOW.
THE SNOW MELT IN COMBINATION WITH RAIN MAY LEAD TO RISES ON MANY
OF THE AREA`S STREAMS. TEMPERATURES ON MONDAY...TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY ARE FORECAST TO BRING EVEN WARMER TEMPERATURES WITH SOME
NEAR RECORD HIGHS POSSIBLE. TEMPERATURES ALONG WITH WARM WINDS
WILL AID IN INCREASING SNOWMELT.
THE COEUR D`ALENE, ST JOE, PALOUSE, AND LITTLE SPOKANE RIVERS AND
THEIR FEEDER STREAMS CAN EXPECT RISES THROUGH MID WEEK. OTHER
AREAS EXPECTED TO BE MOST IMPACTED BY MELTING SNOW ARE THOSE WITH
SIGNIFICANT LOW AND MID LEVEL ELEVATION SNOW COVERAGE, NAMELY THE
WATERVILLE PLATEAU AND PALISADES CREEK AREA, AS WELL AS THE
VALLEYS OF NORTHERN WASHINGTON AND IDAHO. FORTUNATELY MOST OF THE
SOILS IN THE AFFECTED AREAS ARE NOT FROZEN AND WILL BE ABLE TO
ABSORB SOME OF THE SNOWMELT RUNOFF.
MAIN IMPACTS WILL BE PONDING AND NUISANCE FLOODING IN LOW LYING
AREAS WITH POOR DRAINAGE OR DUE TO SNOW-CLOGGED STORM DRAINS AND
CULVERTS.
THIS IS AN EVOLVING SITUATION AND FORECASTS MAY CHANGE AS THE
WE GET CLOSER TO THE PERIOD OF INTEREST. THOSE WITH INTERESTS ALONG
RIVERS AND STREAMS OR IMPACTED AREAS SHOULD BE AWARE OF FUTURE
OUTLOOKS, WATCHES, OR WARNINGS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
