Forecast Discussion: For February 5-Feb 8: A Stage 1 burn ban remains in effect for Pierce County. High pressure is expected east of the Cascades through the weekend resulting in east winds and dry conditions in Puget Sound. As Pierce County is sheltered in the shadow of Mount Rainier, an area of stagnant air is expected there through the weekend and beyond. As a result, we could see levels reach the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" range. Western King and Snohomish Counties may see more limited stagnant conditions and may reach "Moderate." In addition to not using fireplaces and older uncertified wood stoves, Burning debris from the recent ice storm is NOT allowed during the Stage 1 burn ban. Also, outdoor burning is never allowed in the urban growth areas. There are several transfer stations in Pierce County that are accepting yard debris for free this month. |
